My name is Jerome Trinquard and I am an operator for Pascal TP. The company was established five years ago by Pascal Agusti and has 11 employees. It is based in Salon de Provence, 70km north of Marseille, and specialises in groundworks and earthmoving projects.
I operate a Hitachi ZX170W-3 wheeled excavator, which has three buckets and a hammer attachment. It has cleared this site of tree roots and rocks, and is now preparing the ground for the construction of a house.
HITACHI
The ZX170W-3 was the company’s second Hitachi machine and was delivered in February 2008. Pascal TP also owns a Hitachi ZX225US-3 excavator, delivered in January 2008, and a ZX27U-2 mini excavator, delivered in May 2008.
The owner decided to buy Hitachi because I told him that Hitachi machines are the most reliable and economic. I have used other brands of machinery, but they often had breakdowns and were less reliable.
Experience
One of the main advantages of the ZX170W-3 is its versatility. We have only used this machine with different attachments to clear the whole site. It is also sub-contracted to other firms and can be driven to a variety of job sites.
I drove it to this site from the company’s depot. It only took 45 minutes and was very smooth and stable on the road.
Compared to other excavators, I think the ZX170W-3 is faster, quieter and easier to operate. It is also economic – it uses 9.2 litres of fuel per hour, which is much lower than the average of 13 litres per hour.
The ZX170W-3 is extremely easy to manoeuvre and precise – it almost seems like my own hand is at the end of the excavator’s arm! The cab is comfortable, too. I often eat my lunch in the cab, it’s even better than sitting on my sofa at home!
