My name is Patrick Huerta and I am an operator for DSD Démolition. The company is based in Septèmes les Vallons just outside Marseille. It has 30 employees and was established in 2006 by managing director Brahim El Hadri. It works on road and housing demolition projects all over the south of France.
I operate a ZX470LCH-3 and it is currently demolishing a 20-year-old bridge in the centre of Marseille. The A55 motorway bridge is 1.3km long and will eventually be replaced by a tunnel. We are working round the clock to complete the project on time.
HITACHI
DSD Démolition bought its first Hitachi machine three years ago, a ZX350LC. At that time, it was a subsidiary of Demokrite, a nationwide demolition company. It now owns four Hitachi excavators, including a new ZX350LCN-3 and ZX250LCN-3.
The ZX470LCH-3 is fitted with a 26m high-reach boom, hammer attachment, protective guards and lights for working during the night. It was delivered in spring 2008 and has 575 hours on the clock.
Experience
I have worked in this industry for 15 years. Compared to other brands, Hitachi excavators are more reliable, have less downtime and are more comfortable to work in.
The ZX470LCH-3 is the only machine I operate. It is easy to manoeuvre and the controls are easy to use. It is also stable and comfortable, and I feel very safe while I am working. I work eight-hour night shifts, so comfort is very important to me.
This excavator can be used with several different attachments such as shears, hammer or different sized buckets. The job site dictates what kind of attachment is needed. Sometimes we use explosions to demolish buildings and the ZX470LCH-3 is used to remove the debris and clear the site, which also proves its versatility.
