My name is Vinicio Meniconi and I am an operator at GMP SpA. The company owns a concrete plant in Marsciano in Umbria, Italy. It was established in 1976 and is named after its three founders, two of whom still run the company. It now has 92 employees.
GMP owns three quarries within approximately 15km of the plant. Up to 250,000m³ of concrete is produced at the site each year and used for road, industrial and general construction projects.
HITACHI
GMP has been a Hitachi customer since 1977 when it invested in an 18-tonne excavator. It now owns 30 machines, including dozers, wheel loaders, compactors, pavers and 15 Hitachi excavators from 1.4 to 70 tonnes.
I am using the ZX14-3 mini excavator to landscape the grounds at the entrance of the plant. I have also used it to dig trenches for utilities at another site nearby. It is ideal for working in confined spaces.
GMP continues to invest in Hitachi machinery because of the high level of after-sales service it receives from the official Italian Hitachi dealer, SCAI. Co-owner Alfio Morelli has a long relationship with SCAI and appreciates the support it provides for his company.
Experience
I have operated a variety of construction machinery, including Hitachi ZX350 and ZX50U-2 excavators. I have only used the ZX14-3 mini excavator for one month, but it has already proved to be the ideal machine for small earthmoving jobs such as digging trenches, and landscaping compact areas and gardens. It is also possible to transport the mini on a small trailer.
The user-friendly controls make it easy to operate and the cab is comfortable. It is stable on soft, uneven ground and I have been very impressed with its overall performance and productivity.
