My
My name is Waldemar Rataj and I am the quarry manager at Cementownia Warta in Poland. The cement plant owns one of the largest limestone quarries in the country. The company was established in 1963 and I have worked here since 1987.
Cementownia Warta is one of Poland’s main producers of high-quality cement, which is used to make bridges, highways and airport runways. It produces 3,000 tonnes of cement per day.
Hitachi
The EX1200-6 was delivered in July 2010 and was supplied by the Polish Hitachi dealer, Tona. It is the company’s first Hitachi excavator and is fitted with a 6.5m³ bucket.
The machine is used to excavate limestone and load rigid dump trucks. It makes three to four passes per 40-tonne truck load. The EX1200-6 is also required to excavate from water and depths of up to 11m. It’s important that it can do this – we don’t want to use additional equipment.
Experience
Since the arrival of the EX1200-6, we no longer need to use blasting to extract the limestone. The excavator’s large bucket capacity has maximised the efficiency of the loading process at this site.
The Hitachi excavator does the same work as four electric excavators, and it only needs one operator. It can also be moved easily to a variety of locations around the quarry, which makes it more versatile than our electric excavators.
