My name is Claudio Rossi and I am an operator for Nuova Ge. Cav, a construction company founded five years ago in Umbria. We currently have a team of 20 staff and operate Hitachi excavators and wheel loaders rented from the Italian Hitachi distributor.
The Hitachi fleet helps to produce materials from an open-cast quarry for use on road and general construction sites. We choose to rent, because this offers the flexibility required for a wide range of job sites.
HITACHI
We were “converted” to Hitachi after testing a ZX350-3 against another machine. We had never used Hitachi before, but we were certainly convinced about the productivity of the Zaxis.
We are currently running a ZX350-3 and ZX210-3 with a ZW220 at the quarry, but the other excavators vary because we have access to the whole Hitachi range. When changing job sites, we may also need to change machines, but one phone call is enough for us to receive a fast and efficient service.
Experience
Our tests have shown that the Zaxis mid-range excavators deliver better fuel consumption and handle 100m³ more per hour. Our maintenance costs have also decreased and we have enjoyed 100 per cent reliability.
However, staff welfare is also a major consideration. If we are working for up to 11 hours, then we must be happy with our working environment.
The ergonomic design of the control panel means that the ZX210-3 is easy to use and manoeuvre. We like the comfortable seat, air conditioning and there’s even a fridge! Above all, when you close the door it sounds like a good quality car.
