My

My name is Josef Benz and I am the head of The Central Rhine Forestry Commission (FGM). We are responsible for managing almost 500 hectares of public and private woodland in eight municipalities.
Our main concern when purchasing construction machinery is to maintain a cost effective and efficient approach to forest management.

HITACHI

We have invested in a modified Hitachi ZX210W excavator to help us increase production capacity. The machine was purchased from the Swiss Hitachi distributor and has been fitted with a Woody 60 harvester head for felling trees of up to 650mm in diameter. The ZX210W also features a two-part extension arm with a comprehensive upper structure and cab protection.

Experience

The Hitachi wheeled excavator is the perfect machine for this type of forestry application. We can now handle 100m³ of wood per day thanks to the ZX210W. By investing in such state-of-the-art technology, our six-man team can now take our forest cultivation skills to the next level and expand operations beyond our immediate district. In addition to enhancing levels of production, it also provides excellent stability and an amazing range. This allows us to travel anywhere within our region – both on and off-road.

We particularly like the sensitivity and precision of the hydraulics, and the high standard of the workmanship which is evident in some of the components.

Operator safety is also of paramount importance when undertaking this type of work. The cab has been designed with this in mind and to offer high levels of comfort. Most importantly, the visibility from the cab is excellent, which is of course essential when felling trees!

Tree felling made easy
The Central Rhine Forestry Commission (FGM) has invested in a modified Hitachi Zaxis ZX210W wheeled excavator to help it increase production capacity. The machine, which was purchased from the official dealer of Hitachi Construction Machinery in Switzerland, Probst Maveg, has been fitted with a Woody 60 harvester head to help make timber harvesting more efficient.

The FGM manages almost 500 hectares of forest and is responsible for maintaining the public and private woodland. The new machine will allow its team of five people to handle up to 100m3 of wood per day.

“The Hitachi machine is the perfect machine for this application,” explains Josef Benz, head of the FGM. “In addition to enhancing levels of production, it also provides excellent stability and allows us to travel anywhere within our region – both on and off-road.

“Operator safety is also of paramount importance when undertaking this type of work. The cab of the ZX210W has been designed to provide this, while also offering high levels of comfort. Most importantly the visibility from the cab is excellent. This is essential when felling trees.”
