My

My name is Cedric Deschamps and I work for Fours A Chaux de L’Ouest (FACO). The company has 13 employees on this job site and was founded in 1910. I operate a Hitachi ZX870LCR-3 excavator in a limestone quarry next to the village of La Jaudonnière in western France.

The limestone is transported to on-site crushing facilities to produce feed for cattle and poultry, fertilizer for use on fields and also to make concrete.

HITACHI

The company bought its first Hitachi machine five years ago and has a strong, 12-year relationship with the Hitachi dealer, Cobemat. FACO has just taken delivery of the ZX870LCR-3, but it also has two Hitachi wheel loaders, an LX210E and LX145E, and an EH750 dump truck working in this quarry.

Experience

The Hitachi ZX870LCR-3 is ideal for excavating limestone direct from the quarry, which means that no explosives are required. This is important because the quarry is so close to the village and explosions would cause unnecessary tremors – I think it’s important to think about your neighbours when working in a quarry!

The excavator does the work of two machines: it can carry out the excavation work and load limestone onto the dump truck, which helps to keep our running costs low. This is the most important benefit for the business. The excavator is also easy to maintain – the front attachment is automatically lubricated, for example – which saves time and ensures reliability.

I also find that the ZX870LCR-3 handles well and is very precise. Inside the cab, it is comfortable, there is relatively little noise from the machine, and the screen and rear view camera are very useful.
