My name is Ali Riza Kolas and I am an operator at Gebze Quarry, which is owned by Maden Yapi. The company is a joint venture, formed by the owners of four quarrying businesses that used to be in competition with each other.
Maden Yapi was established in 2005 and just has this one site, which is located on the outskirts of Istanbul. The limestone quarry produces raw aggregates for concrete and asphalt plants. It also has its own crushing and screening facilities for producing different grades of material.
HITACHI
Maden Yapi has four excavators, including a Hitachi ZX350LCH-3 and ZX520LCH-3, and seven wheel loaders. Explosives are used several times a week to loosen the rock. We used to load the trucks with wheel loaders, but now we use excavators because this is a more cost-effective method.Experience
I have been an operator for 24 years and have driven Hitachi excavators for most of that time. I have worked in this quarry for the past 12 years and am currently driving the ZX520LCH-3. It is an extremely powerful and stable machine.
I work ten-hour shifts, so the comfort of the cab and how easy it is to operate are important to me. The information provided in Turkish on the monitors is also very useful.
